North Korea spat renews push to change Guam's government

North Korea spat renews push to change Guam's government

The call came after Trump unleashed a slew of fresh threats against North Korea on Friday, declaring the USA military "locked and loaded" and warning North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that he "will regret it fast" if he takes any action against us territories or allies.

"We now hope that all the concerned parties, in what they say and what they do, can contribute to extinguishing the fire [of the tense situation], rather than adding fuel to the fire", foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.

If a missile is judged to be headed for the island, Mattis said: "We'll take it out".

The North's leader ordered the army should always be fire-ready should he make a decision for action, the report said. "And now it's coming to a head, where the threat from North Korea not only to the United States but the world is very, very clear", he said.

France is a member of the Security Council, which approved fresh sanctions on North Korea this month for its recent intercontinental ballistic missile testing.

The European Union's top diplomat, Federica Mogherini, said the EU would intensify its diplomatic efforts with North Korea, the United States, South Korea, China, Russia and Japan.

The United States and South Korea remain technically still at war with North Korea after the 1950-53 Korea n conflict ended with a truce, not a peace treaty. Last week, Trump said, "Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely".

But he says "effective military-to-military" ties with China also are important.

Patrick Twumasi eyes Celtic revenge in Champions League clash
Celtic met FC Astana in Champions League third qualifying round last season, beating the Kazakh side 3-2 on aggregate. It's a different animal to a year ago . "But the European games we had a year ago helped us gain a resilience".

Mattis told reporters that the U.S. military would know the trajectory of a missile within moments and would "take it out" if it looked like it would hit the U.S. Pacific territory.

North Korea has said its military presented leader Kim Jong Un with plans to launch missiles into waters near Guam. He arrived in South Korea on Sunday for a two-day visit, the first leg of his tour to Asia which also includes stops in Japan and China.

"The United States military is always locked and loaded, but the objective of capable, ready forces is to preserve peace and prevent war", he said.

The standoff has sparked global alarm, with world leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping urging calm on both sides.

State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said last week the U.S. was not ruling out dialogue with Pyongyang, with which Washington does not have diplomatic relations, but that it was not going to negotiate before getting to the negotiating table. Seoul and Washington say the exercises are defensive in nature.

Pentagon officials have told CBN News that the US military stands ready to "fight tonight".

"If China wishes to play a more active role in securing regional peace and stability - from which all of us, especially China, derive such great benefit - it must make the decision to exercise its decisive diplomatic and economic leverage over North Korea", the U.S. officials wrote.
