P!nk Will Receive The VMAs 2017 Video Vanguard Award!

(Radio.com) MTV have announced that they will be bestowing pop star Pink with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award during this year's VMAs ceremony.

MTV and MTV 2 have not aired the "Despacito" video since it's release, but it has been played on the network's Latin channel, MTV Tres.

Pink has been chosen as the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, which will take place August 27 at the Forum in Inglewood. See the full list of nominees here!

It's unclear why MTV has not played "Despacito" on its main channel.

"Despacito", the song, will be recognized at the VMAs in the "song of the summer" category, MTV said. MTV still hasn't clarified things up, but they are including the song-not the video-at the VMAs as part of the song of summer category. We'll find out when the VMAs touch down in California on Monday, August 28 at 7am (SGT) and the main awards show at 8am (SGT). The purely Spanish song of Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee has sold more than 7.7 million copies and long since 1996, at the time of Los Del Rio's "Macarena" that a Spanish song tops the charts.

"Despacito" missed out on VMA nominations such as video of the year, best collaboration, best editing and other more. It doesn't really get any bigger than that, ' he said.

"Awards are very important but what bigger award [is there] than having the most watched video in the world in history?" The award is the highest honour available to artists at the awards show - which is held at the Forum in Inglewood, California - and has previously been bestowed upon the likes of Madonna, Beyoncé, and last year's victor Rihanna.

The 2017 VMAs will air live from the Forum in Inglewood, Calif. Lamar is the top nominee with eight, while The Weeknd and Katy Perry - who is hosting the show - each earned five nominations.
